Healing Practice

Lessons from Daniel in the Old Testament

daniel-1

In my office hangs this 17”x22” sepia of Daniel in the Lion’s Den by Briton Riviere, an English artist of the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries.  This piece serves as a helpful reminder of principles involved in the healing practice.  Like Daniel, who lived 2,600 years ago, the modern day practitioner must…

  • Fear Not:  The Bible literally states this 70 times, as in Daniel 10:19-KJV “…fear not: peace be unto thee, be strong, yea, be strong…”
  • Dispel Darkness with Light:  “He reveals deep and mysterious things and knows what lies hidden in darkness, though he is surrounded by light” (Dan. 2:22-NLT).

Lessons from Jesus in the New Testament

2000 years ago Christ Jesus taught the art and science of living an inspiring and fulfilling, spiritually based life, free from fear of all limitations— poverty, sin, sickness, even death!  How did he do this?  Through unconditional love, what he deemed the “fulfilling of the law”…

  • Love:  “You must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, all your strength, and all your mind.  And, Love your neighbor as yourself” (Luke 10:27-NLT). “…perfect love expels all fear…”
    (I John 4:18–NLT).
Jesus’ disciples and those that followed them carried on in “the way” until this spiritual dominion was lost about three centuries later.  Many scholars point to assimilation of pagan practices introduced to Christianity in the time of Constantine.

Lessons from Mary Baker Eddy in Science and Health and Her Other Writings.

Mary_Baker_Eddy
It remained for a very spiritually minded woman named Mary Baker Eddy to rediscover these principles after experiencing in her own life great poverty, sickness, tragedy, and a near fatal accident.  Her spiritual healing of all these conditions solely through study of the Scriptures led her to write, in 1875, a non-denominational book called, Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, which has sold over 10 million copies to people of all faiths and remains a best seller today (see Home page).  Christian Science treatment is explained in detail as a specific type of prayer which changes one’s basis from a limited material view, to an unlimited spiritual view of any issue at hand.  Limitations arise from the human mind’s perspective of reality based upon information received from our five physical senses.  Limitations are removed and healing is realized when thought changes base to the divine Mind and one’s clear understanding of God’s Allness and goodness, coupled with man’s unbroken relationship to God as His very expression.

Lessons from the Church Manual plus Logistics and more

Manual

Mary Baker Eddy wrote the Manual of The Mother Church in which she also stated many guidelines for healing. “Of this I am sure, that each Rule and By-law in this Manual will increase the spirituality of him who obeys it, invigorate his capacity to heal the sick, to comfort such as mourn, and to awaken the sinner”
(My. 230:10). Based upon these Manual guidelines, the Christian Science Scope of Services was derived.

A patient will generally contact me via phone or text during my business hours, daily from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Central Time—or at any time if urgent or via email.  I will respond with a prayerful treatment for that day, unless a series of treatments are requested.  The treatment will likely include talking with the patient, though some prefer to communicate via email, especially when out of the country.  All communication is held in strict confidence (Manual 46:12).  At the end of the month a bill is sent via email (unless otherwise requested) stating the number of days prayerful treatment was given and the amount owed. Click here to see the current billing structure.
